ARTIST: Andrew Myers

This artist uses 1000s of screws to create 3D portraits of his subjects. Not only does he screw in each piece individually, he then paints them one by one almost like a "pixel" effect. He doesn't use any computers to work out the colours/depths of the screws and does it all from photographs.
The backgrounds of the sculptures are made up of pages from a phonebook from the subject's home town. I think that's a nice little addition to make the portrait even more personal. Check out some more examples of his pieces here: http://www.andrewmyersart.com/#/screw_art/

ARTIST: Motoi Yamamoto

This amazing artist uses salt to create intricate mazes in gallery spaces. His only tool is a simple "squeezy bottle" and nozzle filled with salt. His work was inspired by his sister's death. In Japan salt has an important part in ceremonies after a death and is a symbol of purity. The labyrinths can also be seen as a symbol for eternity. As time has gone on, Yamamoto has found that salt and nature have very strong ties so once the exhibitions are over he asks viewers to take a bit of his work away with them and deposit it in the sea or in their soil at home. http://www.motoi.biz/english/e_top/e_top.html

New Layout

Title pretty much explains it. Got bored of the old layout and realised it was pretty irrelevant since this blog doesn't have a lot to do with music! I made the header out of various photos that I've taken. What do you think about the new look? Any opinions?

PHOTOGRAPHER: James Mollison

I think Mollison has to be one of my favourite photographers. As I said before I love "people watching" and seeing what people are wearing and what their stories are. I think photographs of people are amazing because they are not just there to "look pretty" but also can reveal so much about a person. Mollison has done several photo series. My two favorites are "The Disciples" and "Where Children Sleep."

In his photo series "Where Children Sleep" Mollison takes pictures for a cause as he explores childrens' rights and one of the most personal things for a kid - their bedroom. I need a dollar baby

Check out these doodles on one dollar bills. Really imaginative drawings by two French designers - Ivan Duval and Jean Sebastien Ides. Doodlers Anonymous

I'm a huge doodle fan and I think "doodle art" is really cool. To see what you come out with when you're not really focusing on what you are drawing can be quite interesting. Apparently different doodles have different meanings. I usually end up drawing cubes or patterns over and over again. What do you draw? Words and letter? Flowers? Looking into the past

This collection of photographs was made by holding an old photo of an area over the area today and taking a new picture. The idea is pretty amazing as you get to see how areas have changed over the years as buildings are renovated and shops change. It's even more interesting seeing the parts that have stayed the same and seeing how they have aged.
You would think that living in a fairly "new" city such as Dubai would mean that this project wouldn't work but the city has grown at a ridiculous rate and even photos of certain areas from 3 or 4 years back would show a massive change. DIY Anyone?

I have a slight obsession with frames and I especially love the look of a whole series of "vintage" frames on the wall in various sizes and shapes with photographs inside. I found a tutorial on how to make these paper frames online and I thought they looked effective and didn't take too much effort.

There's tons of variations that you can do and you don't even need to put anything inside the frames, I think they'd look pretty cool just by themselves on your wall!

ARTIST:Vik Muniz

This Brazilian artist is amazing. As a huge fan of unconventional mediums I love his work since he uses everything from dust to cotton to create his art.
For example, in his series "Sugar Children" Muniz creates images of children from the Caribbean Island of Saint Kitts out of sugar on black paper. They look like black and white photographs but a closer look reveals the individual grains of sugar. He decided to use this medium because the children are kids of sugar plantation farmers. (Watch the video for more information about this series and the meaning behind some of his other pieces as well).
His work is interesting and has a touch of humour as well, really cool stuff!
