ARTIST: Julien Pacuad
Hey there!
*insert standard apology for not blogging in ages*
I found this awesome artist the other day - Julien Pacaud. He is a french artist who is fantastically quirky. On his website it says that he "hopes he can someday have enough free time to devote himself to his real passion : time travel."
I am a massive fan of collage and my recent obsession with anything to do with space/galaxies/star print meant that Pacaud is the artist of my dreams! He combines vintage images with modern prints and concepts and his work has a scientific edge to it which was probably influenced by his previous job as an astrophysicist.
His work is pretty surreal (a style that I am usually not a fan of), but I think he makes it work really well because of the simple shapes that uses.Check him out here: http://www.julienpacaud.com/

PHOTOGRAPHER: Jasper James
Jasper James is an awesome photographer but my favourite collection of his is his "City Silhouettes" series.
These incredibly simple portraits have been captured beautifully and skilfully. Having lived in an apartment all my life, the familiar view of a city skyline with tall buildings reminds me of home. I'm not sure if these portraits are created where the view from the window is relevant to the subject or not but that could add a personal touch to the photo.
My favourite part about this collection (apart from the unique idea) is the way the simple silhouettes are such a contrast next to the busy, crowded streets and buildings - it really works!

Naughty Ceramics
"Trixie Delicious" is a crafty artist from New Zealand who re-works vintage plates and tea cups by painting rude words/phrases on them (some of the pieces just have simple graphics). I find these so simple yet so amusing as well. Just seeing these nasty phrases on such pretty and prim pieces of china creates a fantastic effect. Maybe it's because you associate the plates and tea cups with fancy tea parties, a place where you would never hear words like "whore", "maneater" and "ass."

Barbie Girl
Woah! I can't believe its been so long since I've done any new posts (almost an entire year!). I shall try to update the blog more regularly from now on.I came across this project by artist Jocelyne Grivaud and loved it as soon as I saw it! All girls (and maybe some boys too) will remember playing with Barbies when they were children. Opening up the packaging for a Barbie doll was always a brilliant experience as their clothes and hair were all shiny and new! That moment was a special part of Grivaud's childhood and she has created a tribute to Barbie with this exhibition by recreating famous works of art with the iconic image of Barbie.To see more of her work go here: http://www.barbiemamuse.com/eng/barbie_galerie.php

I love stuff like this because it makes you feel guilty if you don't do it so you want to keep on going and you feel so satisfied once you finish! It also lets you be super creative because you're "forced" to photograph and draw things that you wouldn't usually photograph and draw which I think is awesome.

Image based personality test.
I remember that I used to love doing these personality quizzes when I was younger but they'd always be seriously predictable and I kind of knew what I was going to get before I had finished the quiz! I even took tests for "what career path should you follow" when I didn't know what to do at uni... I got everything from a teacher, to a lawyer, to a business woman, to a chef!
This test is a bit different... There's 48 "questions" and for each one you have to choose the picture that best suits your personality (in your opinion).

The Intellectual HippieI guess this is fairly accurate, I do love helping people and I like creative things and creativity! My highest percentage was "curious, unconventional, imaginative, artistic" and my lowest was "sociable, adventurous, outgoing, energetic" which I agree with quite a lot but I'd like to think that I'm a sociable person!
You love to help people, but usually find unconventional and subtle ways of doing it. You're fascinated by what the human mind is capable of creating, and seek the world for moments to enrich your life. You love psychology and philosophy. Your respect for all living beings makes you a humble and likeable person, and the biggest reward is when you get to impart your knowledge to those around you.

Thought Project
Simon Horgsberg is a photographer who lives in Denmark. In this project, he randomly stopped people on the street and asked them what they were thinking about at that moment in time. He then snapped a photo of them. It is interesting to see the range of ideas and thought that people have whilst going about their business. I am really drawn to this blog because I find it fascinating how this blogger has focused on such a specific group of fashionable people. Or maybe it's because I am staying with my grandparents at the moment and find this so inspiring. I hope that I can be so positive, imaginative, proud and stylish in my old age! Really amazing stuff.
I especially like this piece of advice on fashion from 79 year old Joyce, "Marvelous Jewelry, it doesn't have to be real or expensive, a strand of pearls can make an outfit." I think it can be applied to any age.
